Care that feels like home.

Lakou Timoun is a licensed family child care home.

We provide a warm, small‑group early childhood environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported as they grow socially, emotionally, and cognitively through play, creativity, and connection.

Learning experiences are guided by the children - their interests, their families, and the world around them -  exploring themes like friendship, community, caring for others, and belonging.

We believe that when children feel safe, understood, and valued, meaningful learning naturally follows.

Ages: Infant – 5 years
Setting: Licensed Family Child Care Home
Group Size: small personalized care (maximum of 5 children)

At Lakou Timoun, our goal is for each child to grow a genuine love of learning and a strong, confident sense of who they are. We care just as much about how children feel as what they learn.

Academic skills are introduced naturally through play, conversation, routines, and hands-on experiences throughout the day.

Reading & Writing (Early Literacy)

Language is part of everything we do.

Children are surrounded by books, stories, songs, and meaningful conversations every day. Through read-alouds and creative expression, children build confidence in communicating their thoughts and ideas.

Early literacy skills are introduced in playful, pressure free ways that encourage curiosity and joy through:

  • Rhymes, songs, and storytelling

  • Letter and sound games

  • Drawing and “writing” stories

  • Labeling their artwork

  • Helping create simple signs and charts

Children are also introduced to Haitian Creole through songs, conversation, and everyday interactions, supporting language development.

Math Through Play

Children explore math naturally throughout the day, counting, sorting, building, and noticing patterns.

By keeping math hands- on and engaging, we help children build confidence and curiosity in a way that feels natural and enjoyable.

Exploring the World (Science)

Our science learning grows from children’s natural curiosity about the world.

Through outdoor play, sensory exploration, and hands - on discovery, children learn about nature, seasons, animals, and the world around them by observing, questioning, and experimenting.

Social‑Emotional Learning

This is the heart of Lakou Timoun.

We intentionally support children in:

  • understanding and expressing their emotions

  • building relationships

  • solving problems

  • developing empathy

  • growing independence and confidence
